Local Action. Measurable Change.
Nelson Community Foundation measures impact not only by how many people receive support, but by whether people become more stable, confident and able to move forward.
Our work combines immediate relief with longer-term pathways into wellbeing, employment, enterprise and community contribution.

Our Impact Model
We connect emergency support with long-term opportunities to reduce repeated crisis.
Immediate Relief
Food parcels, hot meals and hardship support help people through crisis with dignity.
Emotional Stability
Counselling, pastoral care and addictions support help people address emotional distress and rebuild stability.
Employment & Enterprise
Employment coaching and business support help people move towards income, confidence and independence.
Community Contribution
Volunteering and neighbourhood action help people use their skills and experience to strengthen the wider community.
Why Our Impact Matters
Our work does more than meet immediate need. By connecting emergency support with counselling, employment coaching, enterprise support and volunteering, we help reduce repeated crisis and create pathways towards independence.
This means better outcomes for individuals, stronger families and more resilient communities. For funders and partners, our model offers measurable immediate impact alongside long-term social and economic change.
Success Stories
From Food Support to Employment
"I was struggling with anxiety and needed food parcels. Nelson Community Foundation provided food and other essentials, but they did not stop there. I also received counselling and help with my CV, job applications and interview preparation. I am now in full-time employment, no longer need food parcels and feel confident about my future."

From Food Bank to Wider Support
"I first contacted Nelson Community Foundation as I was struggling to feed my children after a sudden change in my household income. I felt embarrassed asking for help and was unsure where to turn. Through the Foodbank and Community Kitchen I received emergency food parcels and hot meals at a time when my family needed immediate support. More importantly I was welcomed with dignity and kindness. After speaking with the team, I was also connected to wider support, including help with budgeting, emotional wellbeing and employment guidance. I don’t know where I would be without their help."
Lorraine
From Loneliness to Belonging
"We are a refugee family that came to Nelson. Very quickly we were feeling overwhelmed, isolated and unsure how to access basic services. Through the Ansaar Project, we received practical guidance, food support, help understanding local systems and support connecting with the wider community. We were helped to feel seen, welcomed and less alone. Over time as a family we began attending community activities and accessing further support. We gained confidence, and the children started to settle into their new environment. Thank you NCF."

How We Measure Lasting Change
Our goal is to measure both immediate emergency support and long-term progress across key stability indicators.
