About Us

From Hardship to Hope.

Nelson Community Foundation helps people across Pendle and Burnley move from hardship towards stability, opportunity and prosperity.

We bring together practical help, emotional support, refugee support, employment guidance, enterprise support and opportunities to contribute to the community.

Our Core Foundations

Driven by Purpose

01

Our Mission

To work to end deprivation, one person at a time.

02

Our Vision

A future where no one is held back by hardship and every person has the opportunity to thrive.

03

Our Purpose

We exist to help people move from hardship towards stability, opportunity and prosperity. Prosperity means having the wellbeing, confidence, skills, relationships and support needed to build a secure, independent and hopeful future.

We treat every person with dignity, respond with compassion and help them build the confidence and capabilities to move forward.

04

Our Wider Ambition

We are building stronger communities across Nelson, Pendle and Burnley while developing a proven model that can be adapted and replicated in communities across the UK.

Our Difference

What Makes Us Different?

Hardship is rarely caused by one problem alone. Food insecurity, financial difficulty, emotional distress, insecure work, trauma and isolation can reinforce one another. That is why our support is connected.

We do not define people by the difficulties they are facing. Someone may first come to us for food support, later receive counselling or employment guidance, and eventually move into work, enterprise, volunteering or community action. This is what we mean by moving from crisis to contribution.

Our Connected Five-Stage Pathway:

Support → Stabilise → Strengthen → Prosper → Contribute

People can enter at the stage that reflects their circumstances and receive the right support as their needs and goals change.
